Day 1: Ha Noi - Thac Ba lake 180km 6h ride.
Goodbye busy Ha Noi, we start our tour by taking dyke road alongside the Red river. We ride along the delta of Hong(Red), Lo, Chay rivers, through the pretty, peaceful villages, see beautiful countryside, and meet the very happy and friendly people. Arriving in Vu Linh, a village of Dao tribes on the side of Thac Ba reservoir. Before check in to the home-stay, we take a ride through the village to the lake for sunset contemplating. Stay at a traditional stilt house, enjoy beautiful food, have an opportunity for an evening with very friendly and funny people. The home-made rice wine is unlimited.
Day 2: Thac Ba - Ha Giang. 180km with some off-road section.
In the morning, we ride along the lake to Yen The town, a well-known of marble and gemstone mining. People make beautiful pictures from the color stone mined in this area. After lunch, we turn to a dirt track with a wooden bridge across Con river before getting to Bac Quang town. Then get on the National road No2 on the side Lo river all the way to Ha Giang city, the gateway to Dong Van Karst Plateau. Obtain permit to visit frontier area in the city. Overnight in a family of Tay tribe in a beautiful village.
Day 3: Ha Giang - Meo Vac. 175km 7h ride (Sealed road and off-road options)
Heading up to Dong Van karst plateau, which is recognized as one of Global Geoparks network. People have said, this area is the best in Vietnam because of the spectacular rock mountain scenery and the traditional customs of the local ethnic tribal groups. In the afternoon, we climb up to "the Most Wonderful" Ma Pi Leng pass. Spectacular scenery from another world. We can stop often to take photos. Overnight at hotel.
Dong Van limestone karst plateau was organized by UNESCO as a global geopark in 2010, it shows contrasts in photography, which includes grand massifs, rock plateaus, gigantic caves, rolling valleys and deep canyons. Being Viet Nam's northernmost region, it is also home to 17 ethnic minorities groups, all still keeping alive the legacy of rich tradition and culture for centuries. It is the great combination of geological and cultural heritages that makes this hidden place so worth visiting.
Day 4: Meo Vac - Ba Be national park. 190km 7h ride (Mixed of road and off-road)
Ride down to Bao Lac, get to Lung Phay pass, turn off to small track with some parts of bumpy, muddy, and some chances for river crossing too. There will be some parts of construction after that. Arriving to the area of Ba Be National Park. Ba Be lake, the biggest natural lake in Vietnam in the heart of National park, surrounded by primary jungle and limestone cliffs. Beautiful ride in very thick jungle. Check in to the home stay, stilt house by the side of the lake. Enjoy the evening with nature.
Day 5: Ba Be National Park - Quang Uyen 180km with some off-road options
Leaving the area of national park, we start our ride heading to Cao Bang on the National Road No.3 follow the Ngan Son mountain range. Surrounded by rolling mountains, Cao Bang is a fertile and flat valley, where the Bang river and Hien river converge. It is home to the Tay and Nung minorities, where the visitors can find peaceful villages and colourful fairs (held every 5 days). Arrive to the town of Quang Uyen. Check in the home-stay, enjoy cold beer and share dinner with family.
Day 6: Quang Uyen - Ban Gioc waterfall - Quang Uyen. 120 km (paved road with some off-road options.)
We will spend the day to visit the largest and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam, Ban Gioc Waterfall, and a big karst cavern, Nguom Ngao (Tiger) Cave. The Ban Gioc waterfall and the river form the natural border between Vietnam and China. Another chance to reach China the other side by taking a bamboo raft.
Return to the home-stay.
Day 7: Quang Uyen - Bac Son 140km sealed with some off-road options
After breakfast, we continue our ride on National Road No.3, then join the legendary ‘Highway 4′ where the Viet Minh forces carried out numerous raids over the uncountable passes in this remote border region. Riding to Dong Khe, the scenery of the road is unique with the steep limestone mountain and green rows of sugar-cane fields, quite challenging with twists and turns and impressive landscape views on the way. Arrive to Bac Son valley, check in to the homestay for overnight. Dinner at the homestay
Day 8: Bac Son - Hanoi 160km paved road
Say goodbye to the host, we start our last journey back to Ha Noi. Get used to be with Ha Noi traffic by the time we get there. Check in your hotel, tour ends!
